Why Mindfulness in Schools?

"Bringing awareness to one’s experience - mindfulness can be applied to our senses, thoughts, and emotions by using sustained attention and noticing our experience without over identifying." ~Mindful Schools Website

Mindfulness increases the grey matter in the Prefrontal Cortex which underpins learning and social functioning. The way in which we practice mindfulness also leads to a more compassionate attitude toward ourselves and others. This can assist in preventing children from developing mental illness and also helps their social functioning.

Angela offers programs in schools for Yoga and/or Mindfulness depending on the school’s needs. Programs can be created to align with the school curriculum, values systems or as a stand-alone key learning area.

One off classes or blocks of lessons (programmes) can be booked.

Thanks, I will be in touch soon.

Kids Yoga has been a beneficial program in assisting children with their self-regulation skills. The program gives the children an opportunity to connect with important personal skills such as self love, their sense of belonging, connections with themselves and with one another. Angela individually tailored the Yoga program to connect with our School Behaviour beliefs about Choice Theory.

Angela’s expertise as a classroom teacher meant that she was able to guide the children in a calm and engaging manner. She developed quick rapport with the class and made each student feel valued.

As a teacher I found that I learnt a variety of classroom management strategies to assist my class in calming quickly, having better focus and using their energy effectively for learning. Shapes breathing is one such activity which we use on a regular basis to regulate our breathing and allow for smooth subject transitions.

The Yoga lessons allowed the students to develop their core and body strength, flexibility, balance, breathing, relaxation and decision making skills.

My 9 yr old daughter has been attending Angela's yoga classes for the last 2 years, they have been life charging for her and the family, she has learnt to control her breath and therefore the tantrums have reduced dramatically. Angela is such a fun teacher with such a wealth of knowledge to teach the kids, I love how she teaches them about mindfulness and taking risks from such an early age whilst also having fun. Thank you!!
